Total forest cover dropped from 70 to 20 percent during the 20th century
Annually, the Forest Management Bureau (FMB) conducts the Philippine Forestry Statistics which monitors the status of our country's forestland percentage. According to their reports from 1976-2018, the total forest cover has dropped from 70 to 20 percent. From these statistics, we can conclude that deforestation is becoming more rampant in the Philippines as urbanization requires more of our lands and resources.
As the citizens of our country, we must be responsible enough to be aware of the status of our forests as these benefit us (e.g. protection from natural calamities). By reading the annual reports by the FMB, we can raise awareness and think of ways on how to protect our forestlands, even in our own simple ways.
